The majority of searches worldwide are conducted on 3 major search engines namely: Google, Yahoo! and MSN. The goal of the search engines is to provide the most relevant information or sites to its users. It is in the best interests of the search engines to be relevant because if the information returned is not then the web user will use a different search engine.

This is the primary way Google has become the number 1 search engine because they have stressed quality of searches over anything else. Page Rank is a series of algorithms that was invented in 1998 and relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B and analyzes the pages that casts the vote.

Google highly ranks pages that have many votes and “one-way” incoming links to the page. This means that other sites or blogs also find the information presented is relevant. If you aspire to get higher search engine rankings, learn how to optimize your content and how to get quality links to your site.
